Food for thought…

Sure, when visiting Vejer you can go surfing or riding horses down at the unspoilt beaches, play golf at world class courses, watch whales in the Straits of Gibraltar, get a birds eye view of the countryside with a scenic flight, or get a close-up view of the birds in their key migration habitats; see the work of internationally renowned sculpture artists within the local umbrella pines, scale the rock faces above Bolonia, or dive the depths of the seas from Barbate or Tarifa.

Or you could take it easy and just enjoy the wonderful local cuisine on offer at Vejer’s ever-expanding range of excellent restaurants.

But if food and drink are your thing, why just consume it, when Annie B can help you create it?

Annie B's...

Annie B’s kitchen is located here in Vejer and the host, Anne Manson, is in love with the region’s food and drink and is an enthusiastic ambassador for its culinary delights. That enthusiasm is infectious — see what people have to say about her courses on tripadvisor. Details of her courses can be found on her website.

If you are staying with us at Escondrijo and don’t want to attend a full course, subject to numbers and dates, you can do just a day course. Contact Annie for details of what is available when.

House rental summer 2011

Although escondrijo mostly operates as a guesthouse, we also from time to time make the whole house¹ available to rent on a self-catering basis for families or groups of friends. That means opening up the kitchen and salon and another bedroom and bathroom — you can read more details and see extra photos on our website here.

This year we are again looking to rent the house in August, especially from the second week onwards. We are flexible, and the precise dates will depend on what people are looking for, the only requirement being that bookings are for a minimum of a week.

Please contact us with any questions…

¹We close off one of the suites that we normally occupy to lock away our personal things.

Hello blog, farewell helpers.

Our winter break is fast coming to a close and we re-open in time for Valentine’s Day. We still have quite a lot of maintenance to do to have the place looking how we want it — but less than at this stage in previous years thanks to Hadden and Helen.

Hadden and Helen Page

They came to us via helpx (the volunteer/travel website; the locally run workaway.info does something similar) and worked 4 or 5 hours a day five days a week in exchange for room and full board. They got to stay in a nice hotel ;-) in Vejer de la Frontera and explore this part of Andalucia, all on a near-zero budget. They were terrific workers, good company, and I think they liked it.

Thanks for all your efforts, and good luck with the rest of your travels. And your new life plans.
