escondrijo: The house

Escondrijo is a beautifully renovated house originally built from the remains of the Vera Cruz Chapel, ruined in the 18th century, with the oldest parts of the house dating back to the Moorish era.

The house is located in a quiet pedestrian lane at the heart of the old town, with Vejer's excellent restaurants and bars all just a short stroll from the front door.

The renovation retained the big lofty rooms and generous common spaces, including the original galleried internal courtyard, which offer an unrivalled sense of space and mean this uniquely stylish and spacious house is without parallel in Vejer.

For much of the year we live in part of the house with our family and rent the Top Room and Hammock Room by the night. Both have private terraces. At certain times we vacate the house and make the whole building available to rent by the week on an exclusive-use self-catering basis when it sleeps 8+4.

We are now taking bookings for the whole house by the week for July & August 2016. The cost is €240/day in July and €260/day in August, which includes private parking and weekly cleaning. Additional cleaning available on request. Please contact us for more details.

The house comprises 360m2 (4000 sqft) of generously proportioned living, entertaining and sleeping accommodation plus over 100m2 of roof terraces, all with spectacular views across the old town to the countryside beyond.

The house is arranged over 3 floors around a central Riyadh-style patio and has four large double bedrooms and four bathrooms. With an additional two double sofa-beds the capacity is 8+4 persons.

Bedrooms 1 and 2 are suites with en-suite bathroom, own terrace, lounge area, and kitchenettes with fridge and facilities for making snacks etc.. Bedrooms 3 and 4 share a large family bathroom. '3' is a large double and '4' has twin single beds. There is an adjacent dressing room which has a sofa bed, and '1' also has a double sofa bed.

There is a fully equipped kitchen that opens onto the main salon/dining-room, and a second lounge off the ground-floor patio, which features a bar and where there is also an extra shower room.

The kitchen is well-stocked and there is a BBQ and mini-bar on the main terrace.

Both sitting rooms have TV and access to a DVD and CD library. There are stereos with iPod connectors and the house has broadband internet.
