Car hire

Most of the major car hire companies have offices at the airports, but you can usually get a cheaper deal going through a broker such as Car Jet or Holiday Autos.

Note that if flying to Gibraltar you will want to confirm that you are collecting the car from the Spanish side of the border (La Linea) to avoid getting caught in border delays.

Travel tip Queues at airport car hire desks can be long. If travelling with luggage have the driver go straight through customs to the car rental desk while the passenger waits for the bags.

Buses and trains

Car hire is recommended to make the most of the area. There are limited bus services available. The nearest train station is at San Fernando near Cádiz.

Once in Vejer

Arrival

escondrijo is in a quiet pedestrian lane at the heart of the walled old town. The streets are narrow and although you can get a car to the house we don't recommend it.

Parking in Vejer is a mix of free municipal car parks and on-street parking, and a new car-park quite nearby on the Corredera which costs €10/day with escondrijo vouchers.

If you are travelling light, find somewhere to park and then walk to escondrijo (midway between the main church at the top of the hill and the Plaza de España).

If you have heavy bags we recommend you go to the Plaza de España to unload luggage before finding parking (there are only a handful of spaces in the Plaza). From the Plaza head up the hill to the right of the Ayuntamiento (town hall) through the archway, go straight on to the Vera Cruz restaurant, turn left into Calle Eduardo Shelley and escondrijo is first left in Callejón Oscuro.
